Physicians:
Thomas H. Burwinkel, M.D., received his medical degree from the University
of Cincinnati in 1986. Following a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at
Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati he went on to complete a fellowship in
Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Tennessee Memphis.
Dr. Burwinkel received his certification from the American Board of Obstetrics and
Gynecology in 1993 and his Reproductive Endocrinology subspecialty certification
in 1996. He has taught at the Wright State University School of Medicine for six
years and is currently an associate clinical professor in the Department of
Obstetrics and Gynecology. He joined Kettering Reproductive Medicine in July of
2000.
Dr. Burwinkel is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, an
active member of the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology, American Society of
Reproductive Medicine, Ohio Section Council of the American College of Obstetrics
and Gynecology and the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technololgy.
Jeremy M. Groll, M.D., received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1997.
He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX and went
on to a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
He recently completed the prestigious CREST program through the National Institutes of Health and Duke University
for training in clinical research. Dr. Groll received certification from the American Board of Obstetrics and
Gynecology in 2006. Dr. Groll also serves as director of the infertility program at Wright-Patterson Medical Center.
He is an assistant professor at Wright State University School of Medicine. Along with his wife, Lorie, Dr. Groll
co-authored one of the top-selling books on lifestyle and fertility, “Fertility Foods: Optimize Ovulation and Conception
Through Food Choices” and has appeared on national radio and in national print media. Dr. Groll is an active member of
the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and the
Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology.
Erica J. Behnke, Ph.D., HCLD(ABB), is the director of the assisted
reproductive technology laboratories at Kettering Reproductive Medicine in
Kettering, Ohio. She was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1987 for
research on sperm capacitation and oocyte maturation and in vitro fertilization,
following a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry in 1978 from Michigan
State University and a Master of Sciences degree in Animal Physiology from the
University of Minnesota in 1980, in the area of sperm cryobiology.
Dr. Behnke moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1987 to head the Reproductive Studies
Laboratory and develop and direct the in vitro fertilization laboratory at Bethesda
Hospital. In 1992 she moved to The Christ Hospital as director of The Center for
Reproductive Studies, encompassing Andrology, embryology and endocrine testing. In
2001, Dr. Behnke designed and directed the new ART laboratories at the Institute
for Reproductive Medicine.
Dr. Behnke is board certified as a High-Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director by
the American Board of Bioanalysis with subspecialty proficiency in embryology and
andrology. She is an active member of the American Society of Reproductive
Medicine (ASRM), The European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE),
the American Association of Bioanalysts, the Reproductive Biology Professional
Group of ASRM, and the Reproductive Laboratory Technology Professional Group of
ASRM. Dr. Behnke has presented many roundtable sessions at ASRM meetings, serves
annually on ASRM abstract committees, and completed two terms on the SART Executive
Council. She also is a volunteer faculty member at the University of Kentucky for
the Clinical Laboratory Science program in reproductive medicine.
Dr. Behnke was appointed as Commissioner for the Reproductive Laboratory
Accreditation Program for the College of American Pathologists (CAP), and has been
a laboratory inspector for CAP since 1994. She is currently a member of the CAP
Reproductive Medicine Resource Committee as well as the Accreditation Education
Committee.
