Childbirth Preparation

Prepare for childbirth through comprehensive classes that include basic prenatal education such as anatomical and physiological changes in pregnancy, nutrition, stages of labor, and signs and symptoms of labor. Psychological/Emotional preparation includes relaxation and breathing techniques to assist you during labor and delivery. Tours of the maternity are part of the classes. Call to schedule your classes in the second trimester; you will attend classes in your third trimester. There are two ways to take classes: a six weeks series in the evenings from 7pm to 9pm or a single weekend class Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 3pm.

Refresher Childbirth Class

The Refresher Lamaze Class is for experienced, expectant parents who wish to review relaxation and breathing techniques by attending a three-week course within the regular Lamaze class. This includes the tour of the maternity area. The classes are offered either as part of the regular Lamaze Classes or the second day of the weekend Lamaze Class. Due to the subject matter, we encourage you not to bring children to childbirth class. Big brothers/sisters are invited to sibling class.

Teen Prenatal Program

The Teen Prenatal Class is a comprehensive class that includes Lamaze, childcare and breastfeeding information for the teen mother and her support person. The class is offered in a weekend format on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 3pm. Class size is small to maximize individual attention and peer support.

Additional Classes

Breastfeeding Class

Conducted by a certified lactation consultant and provides valuable information to prepare for breastfeeding your newborn. Discussion includes prenatal preparation, prevention, and/or relief of common problems, how to successfully breastfeed while returning to work. One time, 2 ½ hours for expectant mothers and fathers/support persons.

Child Care Class

This class focuses on basic care of the newborn. Topics include: bath demonstration, normal newborn characteristics, well baby/sick baby, feeding and diapering tips. A one-time, three-hour class.

Infant/child CPR & Choking Prevention Class

Taught by CPR certified registered nurses. This class provides expectant parents, grandparents with vital basic CPR skills. No certification given. Held with low instructor/student ratio for great learning experience. One-time, 3-hour class is held frequently.

Baby and Me Sibling Class

This one-time, 3-hour class is for children 2 ½ to 10 years old, and is designed to help prepare to welcome the new baby into the family. Activities include: a video on the role of the big brother/sister, diapering and feeding dolls, and making a gift for the new baby!

Prenatal and Postpartum Exercise Class (Moms in Motion)

This program has been specifically designed for the physically active pregnant woman and new mother to maintain fitness level during the pregnancy or during postpartum period. They are a series of stretching, toning, aerobic and relaxation exercises taught by specially trained nurses. Must obtain Physician approval prior to joining classes.

Smoke Free for Life- For My Family and Me!

A smoking cessation program geared exclusively to women and their families before, during, and after pregnancy. This unique program incorporates exercise for mothers as well as flexible one-on-one consultations, group meetings, convenient evening hours and ongoing support and follow-up. This program is FREE, due, in part, to a grant received from the Ohio Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation.

Grandparents-to-be Class

This class focuses on current maternity/infant care, technological changes in obstetrics and fosters communication between expectant parents and grandparents. Class includes a tour of the maternity areas. One time, 2 hour class available every other month.

Adoptive Parenting Classes

Couples exploring the process of adopting a baby/child will explore the decision-making process, logistics of local, national and international issues, emotional aspects for adoptee and adoptive parents, discuss ways to communicate with adopted child from infancy through teen years. Class series of six weeks held twice a year (spring and fall).

Moms in Motion Exercise Class

We help moms to stay active in this six-week exercise program designed for moms during pregnancy and after the birth of their baby. This program is taught by specially trained nurses and involves a series of stretching, toning, aerobic and relaxation exercises. Physician approval required prior to joining classes.

Mommy Network

A group meeting of mothers and their babies to discuss concerns and issues of parenting and infant care. Each meeting is led by a Mother/Baby Nurse Educator. Topics to be discussed include: immunizations, time management, stress management, infant massage, postpartum blues and much more. This is a perfect time to network with other new mothers and discuss your questions or concerns in a relaxing and fun environment.
