About Cindy

In 1983, native Daytonian Cindy Wilde Vogel began a battle with breast cancer
that lasted until it claimed her life in 1988 at the age of 36.
Cindy was a single mother raising her two children, Michael and Jennifer, when
she was first diagnosed with cancer. During her initial bout with the disease,
Cindy came to understand the importance of early detection and education in
fighting cancer.
The Montgomery County Unit of the American Cancer Society recognizes Cindy and
her good friend Carrie Battenberg Lensch, who also died of breast cancer, with
an annual fundraiser titled "the Spirit of Hope Ball."
A photograph of Cindy Wilde Vogel was included in "The Face of Breast Cancer," a
national touring exhibit which featured sixty-two faces of women representing
all fifty states; Cindy represented Ohio. The exhibit was developed by the
National Breast Cancer Coalition to serve as a tribute to all women who have
died from breast cancer.

A Poem by Cindy Wilde Vogel
right now
not tomorrow
or yesterday
or half a year from today
but right now...
right now
yes-this very moment
we can be trees
or flowers
or rain
or snow
or laughter
or tears
or sunshine
just anything imaginable...
but only right now
because dreams don't last
forever...
right now
not tomorrow
or yesterday
or half a year from today
but right now...and only
now...
