Childbirth education classes are a wonderful way to prepare for your baby's birth. Statistics show higher retention levels when learning is done before the baby is born.

Our classes are designed to meet a variety needs. We have classes for first time parents as well as second or third time parents. Also, convenient times are offered to meet the schedule of any lifestyle. It is best to take many classes before the eighth month of your pregnancy.

Our EXCEPTIONS PACKAGE B FOR $70.00 (Baby Club, Prenatal Preparation~ Weekend, Breastfeeding and Baby Care). PACKAGE C FOR $30 (Baby Club, Prenatal Refresher Class and Sibling Class).

Baby Care

Topics covered include baby massage, normal newborn characteristics, well baby/sick baby, feeding, bathing, diapering, infant safety, a baby's schedule, play and car seat safety.


Breastfeeding Preparation

Topics include the production of breast milk, breast preparation and initiation of breastfeeding along with potential problems and their management. Also discussed will be your baby's role, breastfeeding during your hospital stay and breastfeeding while as a working mother. This class should be taken very close to your due date.


Infant CPR Class

This class meets one time and is taught by CPR certified registered nurses and respiratory therapists. Basic CPR and choking prevention is presented. No certification is given. Class space is limited to ensure a low instructor/student ratio.


Infant Massage

Infant Massage is held once a month. Learn the art of infant massage on your newborn. This class is taught by a certified infant massage instructor and is generally taken after the baby's birth.


Labor and Birth-Naturally

Women and their families will learn how to use herbs, aromotherapy and accupressure to support themselves through labor. Additional topics to be discussed include herbal teas and tinctures to ease childbirth, aromatherapy for relaxation, and easy accupressure points to relax the pelvis, quicken labor and relieve pain and anxiety.


Maternity Tour

A free organzied tour of labor and delivery, mother/baby unit, and the nursery are given once a week. The culture of the unit is explained and questions are addressed. Tours are included in all Prenatal classes taken at Southview Hospital.


Prenatal Preparation (Childbirth/Lamaze) Class

This three week evening series covers the physical and emotional changes of the birthing process, relaxation, breathing and pushing techniques, medication/anesthesia options, cesearean birth information, and post partum adjustments to the new family. This class is held at Southview Hospital. Saturday Classes are also offered every other month.


Prenatal Refresher (Childbirth/Lamaze) Class

This class provides a tour of the center, a review of the labor and delivery process, birth options plus breathing and relaxation techniques. A question and answer session is also provided. Please call 401-6444 for class schedule. We will be happy to assist you!


Safe Sitter Class

Safe Sitter improves the welfare of young children by increasing the availability of young adolescents, ages 11-13, that are instructed in safe and nurturing child care techniques. The lives of adolescents are enhanced by providing the opportunity to acquire competencies in rescue skills, basic first aid and nurturing, safe child care techniques. Sibling Class

Prepare your children for the arrival of their new sibling. This class includes a tour of the maternity center, making a gift for the new baby, self-estem issues, holding and diapering the baby, and changes when living with a baby. Children ages 3-10 should attend. (Parents are required to attend with thier children to this class.)


Teen Prenatal (Childbirth/Lamaze) Class

These classes provide the same material as the Prenatal (Childbirth) Class. They also focus on community/hospital resources, and offer information on informed decisions, coping skills, self-esteem, self-development and teen support groups. These classes also provide an opportunity for informal discussions.
