The Department of Radiation Oncology at Kettering Medical Center is recognized as a
leader in the Greater Dayton area. Services offered at our center are similar to those
offered at the leading institutions nationally and include the latest in technology.
Radiation Oncology at Kettering Medical Center is celebrated as a premier program due to
our comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to care. To provide patients with the
individualized attention they need, our staff is experienced in the most advanced
approaches to treatment. In addition, we offer technologically superior facilities to
provide the best care possible.
Our patients often receive other treatments such as chemotherapy, hormone therapy or
surgery as well as radiation therapy. To ensure the best possible outcome, this
multi-disciplinary approach requires collaboration and coordination among the
specialists on a patient's treatment team. Therefore, during your first visit you will
meet with your radiation oncologist and a nurse practitioner. Your radiation oncologist
may consult with any other specialists as necessary before your treatment begins to
determine the best course of action. In addition, other members of the Cancer Support
Services Program may be brought in to better help you successfully manage your
treatment.
The major goal of radiation therapy is to maximize curing cancer while maintaining
optimal organ function and quality of life. Because each patient's case presents
unique challenges and requires individualized attention, we urge you to consult your
radiation oncologist about which treatment plan is best for you. It is extremely
important to seek out an expert team of physicians who specialize in your type of
cancer to insure optimal outcome.
Radiation Oncology Receives Accreditation

The Kettering Medical Center (KMC) Radiation Oncology Department was recently awarded
accreditation through March 2010 from the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO).
ACRO is a nationally-recognized radiation oncology organization whose mission is to
ensure the highest quality care to community patients receiving radiation therapy.
“The process used to evaluate the Radiation Oncology Department consisted of on-site,
in-depth appraisals of the facility, equipment, policies, procedures, as well as the
staff and clinical treatment methods,” states Jacob Locke, MD, medical director. This
review process included extensive off-site analysis of physical and clinical data as
well as a critical review of patient records and analysis of the radiation delivery
equipment tolerances.
The evaluation was conducted by ACRO-designated board-certified
radiation oncologists and radiation physicists, members of the ACRO Physics Commission
and the ACRO Practice Accreditation Subcommittee. KMC Radiation Oncology data compared
favorably to the ACRO national radiation oncology database and multiple nationally
accepted standards of radiation oncology practice.
