General Information
The Fellowship is a one-year extended program of study in Sports Medicine
designed for grads of Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, Internal Medicine
or Pediatric residencies.
Our program is accredited by the ACGME (American College of Graduate Medical
Education) and its graduates are eligible to sit for the Certificate of Added
Qualification exam administered in Primary Care Sports Medicine.
The fellowship was established in 1991 and was based at St. Elizabeth's Medical
center. It became fully accredited in 1995. Due to closure of the hospital the
entire sports medicine staff and faculty relocated to a newer and larger
facility, the Kettering Sports Medicine center.
The sponsoring residency is the Wright State University integrated Emergency
Medicine residency. Kettering Medical center also sponsors an Internal Medicine
residency and a Family Practice residency. A local Pediatric residency at Childrens'
Medical center will have an institutional agreement with the fellowship.
The main site for study is the Kettering Sports Medicine center, a
state-of-the-art facility which houses a rehabilitation center, physician
offices and serves as a base of operation for our off-site event staff of
physicians, athletic trainers, and therapists. Faculty includes family
physicians who are Board Certified in Sports Medicine, as well as two orthopedic
surgeons with fellowship training in sports medicine.
Fellows will care for a wide range of athletes including youth sports teams,
high school athletes, Division One college teams and professional athletes.
Fellows will also work with individuals involved in all areas of recreational and
competitive athletics including golf, tennis, gymnastics, professional dance, etc.
