 Virtual CT Colonography
- Virtual CT Colonography is becoming an alternative to Colonoscopy, which has been the standard for years. Virtual CT doesn't require any sedatives or anesthesia, allowing the patient to return to work right after the procedure. It is less invasive using Carbon Dioxide to unfold the colon, allowing a clear picture for the CT. Although Virtual CT Colonography is less invasive the preparation needed is still the same as a Colonoscopy.
- The cost of this procedure is $798; this includes technological and professional fees. At this time Virtual CT is not covered by insurers unless there has been a failed attempt at a Colonoscopy, or the patient cannot tolerate anesthesia. Virtual CT Colonography should not be used on patients where there is a high possibility of a positive test result.
- Kettering has two Radiologists that are qualified and trained to interpret a Virtual CT. Positive aspects of a Virtual CT Colonography include; Less inhibiting to the patient, more efficient (Procedure can be undergone and completed in ten minutes), High quality, time, and cost affective.
