History...
Southview Hospital was opened by Grandview Medical Center in 1978, as an outpatient
facility to serve patients in the area’s south suburbs. Then called the Ambulatory Care
Center, it won recognition as Ohio’s first facility devoted exclusively to comprehensive
outpatient care.
As the population of our metropolitan area shifted south, its’ health care needs
increased. By 1983, inpatient beds were added and the facility was renamed as Southview
Hospital and Family Health Center.
In 1998, the Southview Hospital Maternity Center opened its doors and rapidly became the
area’s showcase for state-of-the-art care for mothers and newborns, offering personal
care in a comfortable, non-institutional setting.
In 2004, Southview Hospital’s recognition as a center of excellence for a wide range of
medical services received national attention. Southview Hospital & Grandview Hospital
earned the 2004 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence from HealthGrades.
This distinction places Southview and Grandview Hospitals among the top 3.5 percent of
all 4,777 acute-care hospitals in the country in terms of overall clinical excellence.
